Commemorative Banners: Flaming June

For the sixth Flaming June exhibition, I made 2 banners: one for me and one for Sarah Gavlak. Both took "flaming" as a departure towards further talk about heat. The design is based on a photograph of an opera singer I saw in the NY Times on an airplane a couple weeks before the show. She was wearing an amazing coat with scalloped designs down the front. The banners list the involved galleries: Gavlak WPB (West Palm Beach) who curated the show, and Spanierman NYC (New York City) which was the location of the show. I wore the one that says "On Fire" and Sarah wore "is it hot in here or is it just me?"

A few weeks later, in the business class section of a Lufthansa flight from Basel to New York City, the stewardess spilled an entire bowl of pasta on Sarah, and the banner took a pretty bad hit. It was returned to me for cleaning, and I'm happy to report that it is now pasta-free.

These banners are made of bamboo.
